Quantity Surveyor Jobs in Oxford

In too many construction companies, the quantity surveyor is brought in as an afterthought — expected to control costs on projects that were never properly scoped, chase information that should have been provided weeks ago and clean up commercial problems that could have been avoided entirely. At Lynch Brother Homes, we have built a business where the QS function sits at the centre of delivery, not on the margins of it.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, experienced quantity surveyor to take full ownership of the commercial side of our residential projects across Oxford and Oxfordshire. This is not a token role within a site-led operation. You will be embedded in a collaborative team that genuinely values cost management — and you will have the structure, support and autonomy to do the job properly.

Pay: £50,000–£75,000 per year Job Type: Full-time, permanent Location: Oxford and Oxfordshire — in person

What You Will Own

This is a full quantity surveying role with end-to-end commercial responsibility across our portfolio of high-end residential projects — bespoke new builds, extensions, conversions and refurbishments. You will be managing:

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets and Bills of Quantities for each project
  • Monitoring expenditure closely and ensuring all works are delivered within agreed budgets
  • Carrying out regular site visits to assess progress, measure completed works and ensure accuracy of valuations
  • Taking full ownership of variations and additions — pricing, recording and agreeing all changes accurately
  • Maintaining clear, accurate records of project costs, variations and contractual changes throughout every build
  • Identifying potential cost overruns early and providing practical solutions before they become problems
  • Working closely with project managers, site teams and external consultants to ensure cost efficiency and smooth delivery
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with relevant regulations, contracts and industry standards

You will be working within a company that has invested heavily in its planning, coordination and back-office operation. That means you will have the information, access and support you need to manage costs proactively — not reactively.

What We Expect

We have earned our reputation across Oxfordshire through meticulous delivery, and the commercial management behind that is a major part of why. The right candidate will bring:

  • Proven experience as a quantity surveyor within the construction industry, ideally residential
  • Strong knowledge of cost control techniques, estimating and financial management
  • A solid understanding of construction methods, materials and contractual procedures
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple live projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal
  • A sharp eye for detail and the discipline to maintain accurate records across every project
  • A relevant professional qualification such as MRICS or equivalent is desirable but not essential — what matters most is proven capability and the right approach

We are looking for someone who wants genuine ownership of the commercial function within a growing company. Someone who is frustrated by being undervalued or sidelined elsewhere and knows what they can deliver when given the right platform. We have built that platform — and we are looking for the right person to make it their own.

What You Get in Return

Lynch Brother Homes is a company that has grown by investing in the right people and giving them reasons to stay. This role is no different.

Commercial ownership with real influence. You will not be buried under layers of management or fighting to be heard. As our quantity surveyor, you will work directly with directors, project managers and site teams. Your input shapes how projects are scoped, managed and delivered. That is not lip service — it is how we operate.

A team that feels like family. We are a family-run business and that is reflected in how we treat every member of the team. Regular team lunches, genuine check-ins and a culture where people are respected and valued. The collaborative, hands-on environment here is something our people consistently say sets us apart.

Training and career development. We invest in every member of our team. Whether you want to deepen your technical expertise, work towards MRICS accreditation or develop into a broader commercial leadership role — we will actively support that progression. Where you start with us is not where you have to stay.

A growing company with a strong pipeline. Lynch Brother Homes is expanding across Oxfordshire. This is an opportunity to join a business at a point where your contribution will directly shape its commercial maturity and future growth. That kind of impact is rare — especially within a team this supportive.

Benefits that reflect how we value our people:

  • Company pension
  • Private medical insurance
  • Company events
  • On-site parking

Local projects, always. Every build is in and around Oxford. No travelling across the country, no weeks away from home. A serious career without the sacrifice.

This Role Is Right for You If

  • You want full commercial ownership across a portfolio of high-quality residential projects
  • You are tired of being treated as a back-office function rather than a central part of delivery
  • You thrive in a hands-on, collaborative environment rather than a corporate hierarchy
  • You want to join a growing company where your contribution has visible impact
  • You are looking for a team that values what a strong QS brings to every project — and proves it daily
